We finally found our puppy! We had planned to go searching on Saturday for our puppy, and one of the puppy rescues we had our eye on had an adoption event on Friday evening. This was great news because it wasn't as busy as it normally is on Saturday afternoons. We looked on the website and there were a few puppies that caught our interest. When we arrived at the rescue, there were cars lined up and we started getting anxious. In our minds, everyone wanted the same puppy as we did. Once all the cars were parked, we were given the rules on how to pick out a puppy. There were about 10 families and about 43 puppies. We were told to find a puppy in the cage and raise our hand to have a volunteer take her out and put her in a play area cage. Well, everyone started to raise their hand right away and we did too. We hadn't even really had a chance to see the pups. The first girl we looked at stole our hearts. We played with her in the play cage and she really seemed to like us. We decided she was perfect. They put the adopted puppies in another cage while paperwork is completed. Well, our puppy wouldn't stop talking. People were making comments with apologetic looks on their faces about how talkative she was. Turns out, if you weren't paying attention to her, she let you know she was upset. We weren't really feeling the talkative little girl. We thought we should take another look at the other puppies while we waited for other families to pick out their pup. That is when our little girl caught our eye. She was just laying there in a cage. She was so sweet when we were playing with her and we actually thought she was cuter than the first pup. After an hour of puppy orientation, we brought Sadie home. She is presumed to be a German Shepherd / Lab mix and she is 8 weeks old. She was born the day after me! She has a lab face and German Shepherd coloring.
I feel like we have a newborn in the house. Em and Linds, I feel for ya! She is a good sleeper, but wakes up every few hours. She whines because when she wakes up she doesn't know we are there and we think she gets scared. She loves to cuddle and play with her toys by herself. She hates the lease and refuses to move when it is on. She loves burrowing and tunnels. She is a good girl and we love her so much!
Oh the joys of parenthood - be thankful you only have to feed her from a bag of food. Belle cried every hour for the first night she was away from her brothers and sisters. Is she 8 years or 8 weeks? Either way, she is cute!! We can't wait to play with her.
ReplyDeleteAndrew and I can't wait to meet Sadie. I hope she will be big enough to give Andrew a ride. That is his favorite thing! :) You should warn her!
