Sadie Update

Sadie's ultra sound came back normal which was good news because that means she doesn't have kidney stones or cancer etc. She did have to go back to the vet and get a pelvic exam. They sedated her and found that she does have a "blind" bladder reservoir (obviously not the technical term, but what Ferdinand relayed to me). This didn't show up on the ultra sound, but it is what is causing the "leaking" followed by the UTI's. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it. Surgery won't necessarily fix the problem, so we are looking at UTI's every 6-8 weeks for the rest of her life. This was obviously disappointing news, but we have come to terms with our new normal and we know that the outcome could always be worse. We have a refill supply of antibiotics waiting for us at the pharmacy. Sadie is very good at take pills down her throat these days which is good for us but a little sad too. No puppy should get "used" to that.
Since the pelvic exam we have had a tough time with Sadie. It burns when she urinates and she screams out when she first begins to go. I say scream, not yelp, because that is exactly what it is, screaming. We did get her some pain pills once that began. She went to doggie day care for the weekend because we were in Aspen (Ferdinand's kids that he coaches skiing had a competition). The people at the dog care said that she didn't cry out once when she went potty. So, we are now thinking that she is attributing the pain while going potty with us and her outdoor surroundings. She continues to cry out in pain when she goes potty around us and this morning she was visibly shaking and terrified to even go for a walk with me because she didn't want to walk near the places that she went potty when it hurt.
This has caused us lots of tears and emotions. Our heart breaks for our little Sadie-girl. We aren't quite sure what to do to show her that we are not the ones that are causing her pain. We know this is going to take a lot of time and a ton of patience on our part to get her through this emotional distress.
